Keg Lifting Tongs on GoLift

Challenges Resolved:

Beer kegs are both heavy and awkward to maneuver. OSHA states that moving full kegs “pose an increased risk of pain and injury and should be considered hazardous unless appropriate solutions are implemented.” www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/beverage/beer_kegs.html

Lifting, stacking & moving kegs requires heavy lifting, reaching and overhead lifting posing a risk of injury to the entire back, neck and arms.

To reduce the risk of injury and help an injured worker return to his job, McMenamins an Oregon microbrewery asked us to develop a power tool to move individual kegs around.

Keg Lifting Tong for GoLift GL5

The new tooling, a large set of tongs, attaches to our standard GL5 Portable Go Lift. The Keg Lift can be used to move heavy kegs around the brewery, load kegs onto delivery trucks or even into a personal vehicle. This keg lifting equipment is used with an older style of keg that has a lip on both ends and no handles.

This style of lift was necessary for this project but other types of Keg Lifting Devices are available for different styles of kegs, operator needs and work environment.

Keg Master

The Keg Master, keg lifting machine, has a lifting apparatus that works with most newer styles of kegs that have handles. The KegMaster attachment can be used with any of the GoLifts. The stiff lifting jib is lowered, grabbing one of the handles of the keg while the bottom of the Keg Master stabilizes the keg from swinging. The jib is raised for transport or stacking of the kegs. This keg tool can be used to position kegs into tight spaces as the jib does not extend past the sides of the keg.

Standard GoLift

Any of our standard GoLifts can be used around the brewery or pub for transporting kegs as well as other heavy items. The GL5 and GL7 are particularly well suited for this with power lift and power drive on the GL7 or manual push on the GL5.
